Alexia the Doula and Hola Postpartum are sister companies driven to support families in the Twin Cities' area from pregnancy through labor/birth and into postpartum. Alexia the Doula's success comes from deep interpersonal relationships with clients to offer continuous support to enhance pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding success in the families that work with Alexia the Doula.

To continue the mission of Alexia the Doula and build Hola Postpartum, we have current openings to grow our team to provide the best doula care to new families.

Current Openings

Position: Independent Contractor – Birth and Postpartum Doula
Location: Twin Cities Metro Area (in-person support) and hosting prenatal education classes at Viva Family Chiropractic in Golden Valley, MN
Hours: Per client / per service basis (discussed individually)
Start Date: Rolling, based on fit and availability
Status: 1099 Independent Contractor

About the Role:
We are seeking a warm, skilled, and dependable Birth and Postpartum Doula to join us as an independent contractor, partnering in a collaborative and supportive model. You’ll take on your own clients while also working alongside me, Alexia Franco Pettersen (of Alexia the Doula), to co-support families during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants the flexibility of being their own boss while also having the mentorship, structure, and community that comes with working closely with a seasoned doula and educator. Ideal for doulas ready to grow their practice with a steady flow of referrals, back-up support, and shared-care opportunities.

Responsibilities include:
  • Provide in-person and/or virtual birth and postpartum doula support to individual and shared clients
  • Attend prenatal and postpartum visits as scheduled with clients
  • Participate in on-call birth doula rotations (when applicable)
  • Create care plans that reflect the client’s goals and values
  • Offer breastfeeding/lactation support and/or formula feeding guidance (within scope)
  • Maintain clear, timely communication with clients and with Alexia when co-supporting
  • Represent Alexia the Doula brand with warmth, professionalism, and integrity
  • Uphold confidentiality and client autonomy at all times

Ideal Qualifications​:
  • Certification or training completed (or in progress) as a Birth Doula, Postpartum Doula, or both
  • At least 1 year of experience supporting families (personal, volunteer, or professional)
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a grounded, nonjudgmental presence
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to clients across the Twin Cities metro
  • Willingness to work some evenings, weekends, and/or overnights as needed
  • Co-host and Host prenatal education topics two Tuesday evenings a month (schedule is already set for 2025)
  • Ability to maintain clear boundaries and documentation as an independent contractor
  • CPR certification preferred (or willing to obtain)
  • Childbirth Educator training completed or in progress is a plus
Non-Compete & Branding Clause
Contracted doulas agree not to solicit or accept clients referred through or connected to Alexia the Doula for separate private work during or for 12 months after the term of this agreement, unless explicitly agreed upon in writing. All services provided under shared clients or clients referred by Alexia must be offered under the Alexia the Doula brand and follow established care guidelines. Doulas may retain and support their own clients under their own brand, provided there is no conflict of interest or confusion with shared clientele.

​Compensation:
This is a 1099 independent contractor role. Compensation is based on the specific client contract or shift assignment, and doulas will be paid directly by Alexia the Doula following services rendered. Rates vary depending on the type of support provided (birth support, daytime postpartum shifts, overnights, etc.). Rates and terms will be discussed and agreed upon per client engagement or shift.
